Cameron's breath came in even pants, pushing forward as he went for his daily jog in the park, his faithful collie by his side, taking time to be with his owner and stretching his legs. Eventually he slowed to a stop, looking at the sky for a moment. It was about five, and the cool breeze was cooling his body as he paced himself. They did this routine everyday, Cam was determined to be healthy, which would balancing out the drinking and fast food that he would get during the weekend when he found himself with nothing to do. And he had to walk the dog anyways, so it gave him an excuse to be outside and by himself, just to gather his thoughts. Running or exercising brought clarity to his head, smoothing out the bumps that the day had weighed down on him. He was outside for at least a few hours, serving a contrast to being inside and sitting all day long.
He slowed to a stop, taking out his iPod and turning it off before he took off the ear plugs and put them in his pocket; stopping to sit under the shade of a tree to catch his breath. He reached over, scratching Charlie's ear before unclasping the leash off his collar, letting him roam and do his own thing, leaving Cam to sit alone with his thoughts to keep him company.
His eyes glanced at the sky again, the beginnings of the warm colors appearing, marking the fast approaching end to the day. There were still some people out at this hour, most were running or walking like he was, some families were littered over the green lawn, picnic baskets open and enjoying each others company, and he even saw couples walk leisurely, just being with each other without a care. Everyone was with someone, and he wondered why he was alone, still single, with no one to really look forward to at the end of the day.
The thought caused a small crease in his features as he frowned. No. He was too busy to be doing something like that. He had been working and now was hardly the time to think about slowing down. He had time for that later, he should take it easy until someone worth waiting for comes along. He was pretty sure he knew who she was already. But still- he was twenty five- it wasn't as if he was younger and was rushing through life. Everyone else around him seemed to be busy- only he was working.
Silent, he leaned back and watched his dog scamper about for a moment before getting up and joining his dog in his antics.

Kayla was enjoying her walk through the park in the early evening. Things had been slow enough at the hotel that afternoon that she hadn't felt completely guilty about changing out of her business suit and slipping off for an hour or two to get some fresh air. The entire summer had passed her by with her rarely getting out to enjoy the sunshine or even take her boat out for a sail. As much as she loved the hotel, she sometimes wished that she could have more free time to do things she wanted to do.
She smiled, slipping off her shoes to walk barefoot through the grass, watching families on picnics a bit wistfully. She could count on one hand the number of times her family had done something like that when she & Neil were growing up. Usually their father had been too busy with running the hotel and their mother thought it wasn't a proper activity, sitting on the ground and eating. The picnics she had been on had usually had been with a friend's family or when Neil would convince her to help sneak food from the kitchen and they'd go down to the beach to eat it when they were little.
She wandered absentmindedly across the grassy field, not really paying attention to much going around. She let out a surprised squeak as a collie bounded up to her, barking playfully, and scampered in a circle around her. She crouched down to pet him, scratching his ears, and looked around for his owner. kaylas outfit

Cam just almost caught up with Charlie before he scampered off, rushing off to the nearest person that happened to walk close by. Cam laughed. 'Charlie, come back here,' he demanded, watching as Charlie stopped in front of a girl, getting too overexcited to heed his owner's words. Typical, the dog was easily excited, unlike the mellow ones he saw when he went to adopt him. There was just something childishly playful about the puppy at the time, despite the thinning look of his body. Cam felt that he had to get him, and he successfully nursed him back to health. And though Charlie hardly even listened to him and learn his tricks like a good dog, Cam still loved him anyways, always treating it. If it was possible to spoil a dog, that was almost exactly what Cam did when it came to treats and such.
Looking up, he hooked one hand into the collar of his dog and pulled him back. 'I'm sorry,' he said, slightly flustered, she was rather well dressed to be someone just walking in the park in his eyes, though she was petting Charlie when he arrived, some people doesn't really appreciate owners letting their dog run around to anyone. But the collie was a good dog, he only wanted someone to play with him, constantly, and sometimes Cam had taken the liberty to hire a dog walker to walk his dog and keep him company when he was off for working. He loved animals, and didn't like to treat them badly in any way.
Looking up at the girl with a friendly smile, Cam noted that there was something strikingly familiar about her. He had seen her before, he knew her, but he couldn't place the name behind it, nor the location. But judging by the fact that she was in Cape May, he was guessing he went to high school with her. Absently, he looked down and scratched Charlie's fur absently for a moment, thinking about her face- he knew her. 'Kayla?' he questioned tentatively, looking up at her again with a confused crumple of his face. [/blockquote]

Kayla giggled as the puppy wriggled happily while she petted him. She looked up briefly as his owner crouched down next them to get ahold of the dog, apologizing. "No need to apologize. He didn't do any harm." She reached to scratch behind his ears again, smiling. "He's adorable. Whats his name?"
She glanced up again, startled, when the dogs owner said her name. She looked at him closely before it dawned on her that she knew him. "Cameron? Oh my god, it's been forever. How are you?" She stood back up, smiling at him, pleasantly surprised to see him again. They'd been good friends in school, one of the few who'd been a real friend to her, but she hadn't seen him in at least 4 years with both of them having gone off to school. "When did you get back to town?"

Cam grinning, hooking the leash back on Charlie's collar before straightening up, letting his dog be smothered with love, but unable to leave his sight. He chuckled. It is Kayla after all. It's been so long, she looked as beautiful as the first time he saw her and became her friend. Some people hardly change, still looking the same as the day they left high school and took another step ahead with life. And he looked at her, giving her his usual child-like grin that he always did when he was around his friend. That was a good thing, it meant that life was treating her well enough, and that clearly she prospered.
'I could ask you the same thing,' he said. 'I never left Cape May to begin with, I went to collage here and work here,'he said with a chuckle, licking his lips absently as he bent down a little and scratched his ear absently. He was actually still in school, but he wasn't going to say that. He was working to be a therapist, but he liked to say 'work' because it made him feel like he did something with his life. It was a little contradictory to want to be a bartender because he didn't want to go to school, and now- he was still in school, even with the complaining he did as a teen.
'How's life treating you? Well I hope?' he said with another smile. He had been busy lately and preoccupied, so he wasn't sure if he would get another chance just to talk to her again. So he tried to make every moment count.

Kayla smiled, glad to have run into Cameron. The last time she'd seen him had been the summer after high school. Their classmates had thrown a party on the beach and he'd spent the entire time trying to get her to join in the party instead of sitting on the sidelines watching. He'd been one of the few people she could really have called a friend at school.
"I thought you'd gone away to school?" Sitting back down on the grass, she giggled as his puppy climbed into her lap, barking and trying to lick her face. "Dad sent Neil and I away to NY for school. Or me to school and Neil to party, would be more accurate. "So what are you doing now? It's been forever since we've seen each other."
She shrugged and sighed a bit at his question. "Working at the hotel like dad wanted me to. Its kind of been my destiny, so to speak." She looked a bit sad as she talked about it. "Now dad has taken off until next spring, buying a new hotel in Florida. And dumped the entire running of the Seascape in my lap until he returns."

Cam crouched beside her, scratching Charlie's ear absently. He nodded at her words. 'Nope, I have decided to stay here. I get homesick,' he explained, even vacations he would get bored easily. It was one of those things. He smiled. New York? It's pretty big, Cam wasn't much of a city person, small towns where his preference, it makes him feel left out when there's so many people. Unfortunately- in a small town, everyone knows everyone else business. They really don't have privacy here. But Cam never really stirred trouble, and so far he's steered clear of the recent blogs.
He looked at her, curious. She seemed upset. 'Your destiny?' he quoted, frowning. 'Destiny is what you make of it,' he reminded her gently. You make your own destiny and fate- it's not the other way around. If she bent to her father's will, it's her choice. But he hated when people say they were forced or had to do something. 'Ah- well that must not be good,' he said sympathetically. 'Doesn't your brother help you at all?' he asked her concerned. That was a lot of work to put on her, it didn't seem fair to him.
