Saturday afternoon always was such a drag. Katie actually did like the weekend but only if she had something to do. This weekend she didn't. Her boyfriend and his brother had taken a road trip with their parents for no reason and Katie wasn't allowed to go. Something about 'family time'. Katie sat in her room flipping through the tv channels. Nothing was on. She stopped on a football game but changed it after a few minutes. Football just wasn't her thing unless it was the Saints playing. Katie had to get out and do something. She stood up and walked to her closet and changed into a pair of jeans and a cute top. She slipped her flats on and smoothed her hair down before grabbing her purse and walked out of her room and out of her house. She was determined to find something to do. Maybe she'd get Claire to meet her somewhere and they'd go shopping. Claire and Katie were the closest of all the cousins in their family and they loved it. Katie might be a college student but she still enjoyed sleepovers with her girlfriends and with Claire.
Walking outside Katie slipped the ipod into her pocket and looked around. The song 'Life after you' filled her ears and she started lip singing along with it. Before Katie knew it she had found her way at the park. Oddly it was pretty empty. Normally with it being as pretty as it was right then there should be tons of kids playing on the playground. Katie slowly took her earbuds out of her ears and turned her iPod off. She looked around and saw a few guys playing football. She watched the shirtless men toss the ball around as she made her way to a swing. She sat down and looked down at her lap before kicking off and started to pump her legs to go higher.

One of the best things about a Saturday was that Faith could sleep in. She was a senior this year and ready to graduate. Being a senior was amazing because they were the big dogs of the school. No one could mess with them, unless they messed with each other. It was pretty hysterical. Faith and her friends all tormented each other when they were at school. Outside of school, no so much since Faith's parents constantly needed baby sitting. She hated that part of her life but it made her mature sooner than she needed to be.
Fortunately her parents had passed out asleep so Faith could sneak out of the house and have some time to herself. She ended up at the state park and started walking around. There wasn't much to do here for someone her age so she needed to channel her inner child. When she did that she immediately thought of going to the swing sets. That was a place she loved as a child. Faith made her way over, seeing another girl there and saw that she was watching a bunch of hot guys pay football. Sitting down on the swing next to the girl--she'd come from behind her--she said, "Nice view. I could sit here and watch this all day." Faith started to move her legs a little bit but didn't go very high. She'd always had a fear of going high and then the swing breaking causing her to land flat on her front or back and possibly injure herself.

Katie watched the guys running and couldn't help but think about her ex. Why did she have to be so stupid and break up with him? Sure her grades were dropping but it wasn't like it was that bad. It wasn't like she went from a's to f's. Just went from a's to b's it was still passing! Katie couldn't help but kick her butt for it. Yeah she was with someone new well not really new but it was her new boyfriend but she wasn't happy. She knew she wouldn't be happy with anyone as long as she was hung up on the ex. She let out a sigh and glanced down at her lap before looking back up. She had started to swing a little high but not really that much.
The voice from behind Katie made her heart flip. She came to a quick halt and looked back. Yeah she was jumpy but that was normal for her. "Oh yeah. I could too." She said with a soft laugh. "Shirtless men....what could be better?" She asked not thinking about what could be better. She tried to push her boy troubles out of her mind while she was there just relaxing. "So what brings you all the way out here?" She asked kicking a little getting a little higher.

Faith smiled a little when the girl agreed and a small laugh came out. She continued to go steady on the swing and watch the guys while thinking of her answer to the girl's question. "Ah, well, just....needed some time out of the house. It can get a little hectic at times." That was half true. The "at times" was all the time since she never knew how her parents were going to be from one second to the next. It was a scary thing but one she'd had to learn to live with. When she turned 18 she could have up and moved out but she didn't.
"I'm Faith," she said, introducing herself to the girl as it was only polite. Starting off with names was a good thing. Tristan and Isolde should have known better. Maybe their love story wouldn't have ended in tragedy. She looked at the girl trying to put a name to her face. She looked like a Sarah or maybe a Haley, but she could have been totally off too. Faith just liked to give random people names when she didn't know them. That was she could make up a story about them.

Katie listened to the girl's excuse to being at the park. She scrunched her mouth to the side and nodded. "Yeah I know what you mean." She said looking at her. "Mines pretty boring but at a friend of mines it's never a dull moment." The friend she spoke of was her boyfriend and ex's house. Katie knew the boys kept trying to out do each other and Katie was the big thing they would fight over. Katie found out that the hard way. She walked into the house when they were yelling at each other like high school kids. Katie didn't understand it.
"Katie." She said simply with a smile. She looked at Faith trying to figure out if she had any classes with her. She decided she didn't because Faith looked a little young to be in college. Katie closed her eyes and forced a smile. "I'm happy it's a nice day. It'd be great if it rained but not till tonight." She said with a laugh. The rain would be loved. Katie needed a good night sleep and the rain would help her get that.

She laughed again. "Yeah I feel that. My friends have much more exciting houses than I do. It's pretty scary come to think about it." She hated how much better her friends houses were from hers. Most of her friends hated coming over, especially to help her with her parents. That's why she wouldn't be hosting a girls night any time soon. It was completely out of the question. Her parents would ruin everything.
The girl introduced herself as Katie. "Nice to meet you Katie." She'd been totally off on the name but it was a good, cute name for a nice, cute girl like her. Katie said something about it being a nice day and then hoping it rained tonight. "Yeah, I love the rain. I always hope for a moment one day when its pouring down rain in the evening and the man that I love will kiss me for the first time. It's an epic fantasy." She laughed. "Sadly I'm minus a guy, so I won't be able to play it out just yet."

"Yeah I live alone so the only excitement in my house is when my puppy Scruffy chews up a shoe and I'm chasing her around trying to get it back!" Scruffy was a shoe lover like Katie was. Katie had to make sure that when she bought a new pair of shoes she put them up high so Scruffy wouldn't find them or the shoes would be a waste of money. She hated how Scruffy was in her destruction stage of life. Katie wished her pup would grow up and stop eating everything she could get her mouth on.
"Nice to meet you too Faith." She said with a smile. She wished she had a cool name like Faith did. Katie's mom once told her if her father would have allowed it she would have named her Karma instead of Katie but he didn't. Katie slowed down quiet a bit as she listened to Faith speak about the rain. Katie frowned then lightly chuckled as she thought back to her first kiss with her ex. It was in the rain in his parent's backyard. "It's one of the most romantic fantasies and it really is what you think it is." She said glancing over at Faith before starting to swing again.

At the mention of a puppy named Scruffy, Faith giggled. She had two pups of her own. "That's cute. I have two pups myself. A Yorkie, Shadow, and a Maltese Poodle, Lilly. They don't do much except sit and stare at me. It's hilarious." When they were first born they had been the shyest things but that was to be expected with puppies. Faith always thought they would be more rambunctious when they got older but Shadow was 6 months and Lilly was 4 months and they were still the same as they'd been when she got them.
She nodded with a smile when Katie agreed with her about a romantic kiss in the rain. "Yeah, if I'm lucky maybe it will happen. I kind of envy girls who have it happen and they don't wish for it that way. They get all the luck. Knowing me and my track record it won't happen like that." Her luck, she would get her first kiss in some weird place that she never expected. Maybe if she expected all of them then she wouldn't be too shocked. "I guess my whole fantasy started with Nathan and Haley on One Tree Hill. I want mine to happen like that." She laughed.

Katie loved her Scruffy but she didn't know if she could handle two at once. She might get another dog after Scruffy was older but right now she was to much for her to handle. Katie looked over at Faith and nodded. "I wanted a yorkie. I might get one later. My Scruffy is a miniature schnauzer. She's the most hyper thing I've ever seen." She didn't see how one dog could have as much energy as her scruffy. "I wish mine just looked at me. Mine only looks at me and gets in my face if I am slow at feeding her or when she wants to play. If she wants to play then she'll look at me and then pounce on me and growl and bite and bark." Katie said with a laugh. As much as Scruffy annoyed her with destroying all her stuff Katie still loved her baby.
"You're a cute girl it'll happen soon." Katie said listening to the girl. It wasn't like being with a guy solved anything or made everything great again. Katie knew that for a fact. At that moment in her life being in a relationship was bad to Katie. Well maybe it wasn't the relationship that was bad; it was the fact it wasn't with the one she wanted it to be with. Relationships were so complicated. "I never got into that show." She said still swinging.

Faith laughed when Katie told her about her puppy. "That's funny. Dogs are the silliest animals on the planet. At least mine are. But I love them to death." They were the only things that kept her sane when dealing with her parents. Katie then said that it would happen for her soon enough which she was glad this girl, whom she'd met merely 3 minutes ago, had so much faith in her. "Thanks. I'm sure it will. I'm young. I have time." She grinned brightly.
When Katie said she'd never really got into One Tree Hill, Faith had to laugh. "I think I'm the only one of my group of friends who watches it. It's kind of sad, since I have no one to discuss it with. My conversations consist of me talking with myself about it." She continued to swing and watched the guys still play. They were hot, she wasn't gonna lie. But Faith was easily attracted to guys. Not like she'd ever had a real relationship before but, like Katie said, it would happen soon enough.
